"So it that a yes or a no?"
January 18, 2007 09:23 AM
NBS is in depositions all day today and tomorrow. We're expecting them to go something like this one. We'll be taking notes on memorable quotes, and if anything like this happens, you'll hear about it here.Comments
I once asked "so were ya lyin' then or are ya lyin' now?!!!" I'm not quite sure where that came from, but under the circumstances, it was actually justified.
No great quotes from yesterday, except from the deponent. The last time we had depositions in this case, two of the other attorneys got in a big shouting match, that went like this:
Ms. M: Mr. So and So, could you please just answer the question that has been asked? [ed. Mr. So and So had been evasive all day long, and clearly coached by his attorneys not to talk]
Ms. K: Maybe if you knew how to ask a question, M, the witness would be able to answer it!
Ms. M: Look, I don't know what they teach you people around here...
OBJECTION: I object to the use of the words "you people!"
It went on and on like that for several hours.
There may be fireworks today--we've already had one snarky email from one of the attorneys this morning.
after about 25 years of dealing with that kind of shit my temper is now way too short, so i just send an associate...

Heh, indeed.
I'm ashamed to admit that one time when a deponent started back-chatting me, I found myself saying, "Hey, pal, I'M asking the questions here."
