...when a friend calls you up and invites you to the Burns Dinner and you immediately assume it's a benefit for victims of industrial accidents.
It's not.
Robert Burns (January 25, 1759 – July 21, 1796) was a poet and a lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.

I've never met anyone who's been to a Burns Dinner! But I recall a phrase I read once, where a man was trying to describe the near-impossibility of a certain task: "It would be like forcing a veteran of many Burns Dinners to write a new setting for 'Auld Lang Syne'." I've tried it many times, and I always find myself noodling back to the original tune by the third bar.
